Barretos Has Everything for Cowboy Lovers

Barretos, a city in the central-northern part of the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Known at different times as Amaral dos Barretos, Espírito Santo de Barreto, and Espírito Santo dos Barretos, the settlement was granted village status and became the seat of a municipality in 1885. Home to the largest cattle market in the state and one of the largest annual rodeos in the world, Barretos also serves an agricultural area that produces citrus fruits and other crops. Its industries include meat processing and the manufacture of footwear, furniture, and agricultural machinery.

Festival Farms: Private properties located within Cowboy Park, featuring original architectural designs that replicate characteristics of local buildings. They are used year-round for various types of events.

Rest Point of the Drovers – Queimada de Alho: Recreates the atmosphere of the time when cowboys stopped to rest and overnight, featuring rustic buildings that recreate the rural vibe and mark the best moments of the long journeys of the drovers, namely, the moments of meals, music, and stories from the countryside. At the Rest Point of the Drovers, lunch is served, featuring Queimada de Alho, a typical cowboy dish made of beans (enriched with pork offal), carreteiro rice, farofa pilada, sautéed greens, peppers, and other side dishes that sustained the cowboys during work.

Equestrian Society “Os Independentes”: An area reserved for the practice of functional competitions, such as team roping, calf roping, barrel racing, and bulldogging. Visits to the stalls, feed room, saddle and equipment room, as well as bleachers and a bar. Offers accommodation and horse training services year-round.

Rodeo Stadium: The largest symbol of Cowboy Park, designed by Oscar Niemeyer, with a capacity for 35,000 seated people. It is the stage for rodeo circuits and the International Rodeo of Barretos, as well as hosting the megashows held during the Cowboy Festival. Also at the stadium, a visit to suite number 1 is scheduled, where major personalities from the artistic, cultural, political, and business worlds stay when they visit Barretos during the Rodeo.

Cowboy Memorial: Spaces specifically designed to host events related to rural culture, used for country parties throughout the year. During the visit, a documentary about the last Cowboy Festivals is projected, giving the exact dimension of the emotion and grandeur of Brazil’s most traditional country event.

Historical Walk through the City: A guided walk through the center of Barretos, visiting Praça Francisco Barreto (named after the city’s founder) and, around it, the Ruy Menezes Museum (artistic and folkloric collection), the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit (patron saint of the city), and the Historical and Folkloric Museum of the Cowboy (historical and cultural heritage of the city). Then, a visit to the Paulo de Lima Corrêa Building (the first place to host the Cowboy Festival) and the Lakes area (a place for sports practice, gatherings, and city parties).

Cattle Drive – Interactive: One of the highlights of the country weekend. This walk consists of a cattle drive between two rural properties. The cattle are driven by a group of authentic cowboys, along with tourists, all on horseback. Along the cowboys’ path, tourists will have the opportunity to appreciate various types of crops, such as sugarcane, coffee, corn, rubber trees, and pastures. At the end of the route, a typical country coffee is served, a hearty meal consisting of various local dishes; all produced with high-quality ingredients.
