Artificial Intelligence: How AI is Shaping the Future

“If you are one of those people who still turns up their nose when they hear anything about Artificial Intelligence or CHAT GPT, sit down and take a deep breath, because I’m going to give you some reasons to start uncovering the wonders of this technological advancement.

Perhaps you don’t remember anymore, or maybe you were born after this revolution, and the idea of living without the internet seems absurd to you, but the arrival of the internet changed the world. While radio took 38 years to reach the general public and television took 13 years, the internet took only 4 years. This new form of communication was so incredible that it quickly won users all over the world and became the greatest communication tool we have today.

At that time, few had any idea how much this would change what we understood as the world, but can you imagine your life today without this tool? The power that this new medium brought to communication, the speed of information. How many jobs emerged after the arrival of the internet? We connected people from all over the world and transformed the way we interact. And this columnist who writes to you can only thank the internet, as it certainly shortens the distance of 6345 miles that separates me from my family in Rio de Janeiro.

But what does this have to do with CHAT GPT? Everything.

Back then, many people also had prejudice against the arrival of this technological advancement that is now essential in our lives. We had to readjust, some jobs ceased to exist, but how many others emerged?
So, I’m sorry to inform you, dear reader, but you need to become aware of these new technologies and the wonders they bring. Besides helping us solve complex problems in various areas, such as health, education, and the environment, Artificial Intelligence is a powerful tool and, as such, it is important that it is used responsibly and ethically. But, if explored in the right way, these technological advancements have the potential to lead us to a more prosperous and connected future.

But what is CHAT GPT?

The acronym stands for Generative Pretrained Transformer, the tool that generates written content from a huge database, which grows every day, and with that, is being increasingly fed, with its 25 million daily accesses.

Did you know that you can type the ingredients available in your fridge into CHAT GPT and receive several recipes to prepare? In addition, this tool can draft petitions, plan travel itineraries, write emails, plan tasks, manage your time, and make instant translations. And it doesn’t stop there; it can even help create the perfect letter to ask for that raise. The possibilities are endless!

In Hungary, researchers are using Artificial Intelligence to detect breast cancer up to 4 years before its development. The computer system is capable of identifying changes in places that go unnoticed by radiologists. After identifying the area of concern, the radiologist can determine which additional tests are necessary to reduce the chances of the patient developing cancer.

Are you also the person who doesn’t understand anything about investments? Artificial Intelligence can also be a great ally. It can identify market trends and suggest the best investments, as pointed out by Mark Muro from the Brookings Institute. It can even indicate which mix will bring the best result, allowing investors to make more informed and strategic decisions.

It’s true that many things will have to adapt to this new reality. Tests and text summaries, for example, may no longer make sense with this new ‘personal assistant’ collecting an unimaginable amount of information per second.

But how can teachers and other professions use this technology alongside learning? After all, ‘cheating’ has always existed, so why not start seeing technology as a partner in thinking or a writing assistant? And the conversation leaves little to be desired; the tool has learned to converse in a nearly human way.

There is still a lag in the platform; its data is updated only until 2021, which is why the creators advise users to always verify information with other sources. It is important to use it with care and discernment, always maintaining a critical and questioning attitude.

The platform, which until now was seen as Google’s main rival, will soon have company. The American giant, known as the largest search tool in the world, is already testing its virtual assistant.

“Thomas Sauer, who works as the leader of strategy and operations at Google, announced that the company is internally testing its new Artificial Intelligence tool called ‘Bard’.

“The goal of this tool is to allow people to gain insights with high levels of security and quality, to get to the heart of important issues. Bard was designed to help people optimize the way they work.” Thomas suggests that, if used correctly, it is possible to reduce a workday through optimization.

Thomas believes that, just like the arrival of the internet and the amount of accessible information, humanity is advancing in knowledge at a surprising speed, and barriers, such as language, will cease to exist. Bard is a platform that seeks to encourage curiosity and allow people to reach the knowledge necessary to make more informed and effective decisions.

Moreover, Thomas emphasizes that one of the main challenges in developing tools like Bard is ensuring that algorithms are trained accurately and fairly, without the inclusion of human biases, such as racist or dishonest responses. “It is essential that technology is developed ethically and responsibly, so that it can be used positively and beneficially for all.”

Although many people fear that technology and artificial intelligence will become the main threat to human jobs, Felipe Farme D’Amoed, a graphic and motion designer at the American experience agency The Story House, believes in a more optimistic approach to this relationship. Current tools can cross data and generate creations from them at a much faster speed than humans, but there is still much that they cannot do without us.

For Felipe, technology can accelerate the creative process, as long as individuals know how to use it to their advantage and leverage their work. Although it is useful for transforming complex information into easier-to-understand formats, technology cannot replace the human factor if we embrace its existence and learn to grow with it.

Felipe emphasizes that there is still much room for innovation and originality in the arts and design. Instead of being a threat, technology can be seen as just another tool for professionals to combine with their skills and intuition to create unique and impactful solutions.

Artificial Intelligence is a technological advancement that brings many benefits and has the potential to lead us to a more prosperous and connected future. The arrival of this technology only shows that humanity is moving towards even more significant advancements in this area.

Just like the internet, which changed the world, these technologies are powerful tools that help us solve complex problems in a matter of seconds. We need to adapt to this new reality. Technology is constantly evolving and, as the poet Fernando Pessoa said, ‘to navigate is necessary; to live is not.’”
