Applications Open for the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE)

The U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Brazil, in partnership with Amazon.com and the implementation of the +Unidos Group, are opening applications for the third edition of the Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE 3.0) program. This free program will offer 90 spots and aims to support female entrepreneurship. To participate, candidates must be 25 years or older, have an established business for at least one year, and employ between one and five staff members. Applications will be open until May 26 through the link: www.maisunidos.org/awebrasil/

AWE is a program of the U.S. Department of State and has already benefited over 10,000 women in about 50 countries. The initiative has the educational support of the social startup Somos Todas Marias and focuses on entrepreneurial education, helping participants gain training in marketing strategies to leverage the economic potential of their businesses. The program also offers mentorship from specialized market professionals.

“AWE gave me a clearer vision of what I seek as a person and as an entrepreneur. I found inspiration and improved my business model, and now our goal is to expand and show society the unique qualities we have developed. I feel more fulfilled as a person and as a woman, in addition to having had the opportunity to realize the value of female entrepreneurship through contact with other businesswomen,” says Brenda Mendes, winner of AWE 2.0.

The curriculum of AWE-Brazil 3.0 is based on the Global Entrepreneurship and Innovation Bootcamp – 100 Million Learners Program from Arizona State University and includes modules that will cover topics such as: leadership and management, technology, strategic planning, business implementation and expansion, ethical responsibility, recruitment, organizational culture and diversity, people development, value chains, financial management, funding, public-private partnerships, social entrepreneurship, customer loyalty, branding, intellectual property, e-commerce, and social media. Participants will engage in activities such as lectures, workshops, virtual fairs, interactions with successful entrepreneurs, and mentorship from experienced mentors.

+Unidos, a nonprofit association, is a collaborative social investment fund conceived by the U.S. Embassy through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The Group, formed by large companies operating in Brazil, has been working since 2008 to empower young Brazilians by developing initiatives focused on education and technological training, proposing a new way of thinking about the social responsibility efforts currently taking place in the country.
