Actor Pedro Paulo Rangel died this Wednesday (21) in Rio de Janeiro, where he had been hospitalized since the end of October to treat a worsening condition of pulmonary emphysema.
Due to the progression of the disease, the 74-year-old actor had to be intubated in the early hours of the last day 10. On that day, the medical team attending to him considered the artist’s clinical condition to be delicate and required careful monitoring.
Pedro Paulo Rangel’s journey in the arts began early. As a teenager, the son of public servants wrote the play Quando os Pais Entram de Férias. As an actor, he was invited to join the cast of the children’s play O Bruxo e a Rainha, by Pedro Reis. There he met actor Marco Nanini, with whom he attended the Actor Training course at the National Theater Conservatory, now the theater school of UNIRIO.
On television, the actor played memorable characters. His debut was in 1969 on Rede Tupi in São Paulo, as part of the cast of the telenovela Super Plá by Bráulio Pedroso. At the same network, he acted in two other soap operas: Toninho on The Rocks, by Teixeira Filho, in 1970; and Dinheiro Vivo, by Mário Prata, in 1979.
In 1972, he started at TV Globo and soon stood out in the soap opera Bicho do Mato, by Chico de Assis and Renato Corrêa e Castro. In 1979, he returned to Rede Tupi in São Paulo, and two years later returned to Rede Globo for a multitude of characters with great highlights in soap operas such as Gabriela, A Indomada, and Pecado Capital, as well as miniseries like Um Só Coração and Quinto dos Infernos.
Still at the network, the actor’s career included the comedy shows TV Pirata and Viva o Gordo.
