MTV announced the nominees for the MTV Video Music Awards (VMA) 2023, the main award for music videos. Brazilian singer Anitta has received another nomination in the ‘Best Latina’ category for the music video of ‘Funk Rave’.
She is competing against Shakira, Rosalía, Bad Bunny, and Karol G. This is not the first time that the ‘Girl from Rio’ has been nominated for this award. In August of last year, Anitta won the statuette with ‘Envolver’ and became the first Brazilian artist to win the trophy and perform solo on the main stage of the event.
The singer commented on the nomination: ‘I am very happy to have been nominated for the VMA once again! This time with a funk, a project that I am doing with a lot of love and that I recorded in a favela. It’s beautiful. I am so honored,’ she said.
Taylor Swift leads the nominations in eight categories. Following her is SZA, with six nominations. Doja Cat, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, and Olivia Rodrigo appear in five categories, along with the collaboration of Sam Smith and Kim Petras.
