The Memorial Park Quilombo dos Palmares, located in Serra da Barriga, Alagoas, will host the first integrated project to promote tourism activities in the region. The initiative, developed through the Cultural Foundation Palmares (FCP) and the State University of Alagoas (Uneal), aims to transform the site into an afro tourism hub.
The project includes the city of Maceió, União dos Palmares, and the quilombola communities of Alagoas. To make this action feasible, the president of the Palmares Foundation, Erivaldo Oliveira, and the vice-rector of Uneal, Clébio Correia, signed a cooperation agreement that defined the responsibilities of each institution in the project.
“The goal is for students from these educational institutions to experience a day of immersion in black culture. Actions aimed at students and the training of teachers will be developed,” said the vice-rector. The first phase of the project will focus on Serra da Barriga and the Memorial Park Quilombo dos Palmares.
In the project, the creation of a permanent craft fair, produced by the quilombola communities of Alagoas, is planned. Currently, the Memorial Park only sells pieces sent by the community of Quilombo do Muquém, also in Serra da Barriga.Source: Portal Brasil
