With a maturity guaranteed and vocal confidence far beyond her age, young singer Jazzmeia Horn arrives with her debut recording “A Social Call,” an album that reveals a talent ready to stand alongside the best jazz vocalists of today.
Scheduled for release on May 12 via Prestige, a division of Concord Music Group, the album contains 10 tracks.
The marriage of Horn with music and message overflows in the variety of selections in “A Social Call.” Some melodies are in medley format.
With the benefit of Horn’s vocal prowess, “A Social Call” is an album that satisfactorily combines classic jazz with more modern Gospel flavors. Horn’s palpable understanding of singers from the 50s and 60s makes her the ideal candidate for the prestigious label, a brand that has helped introduce many vocalists to the world of jazz.
The album’s name is drawn from the same era – “Of course, Gigi Gryce’s Social Call inspired the title,” says Horn.
