Dancers who are also acrobats or vice versa. Bodies that merge with others or unusual materials, creating surprising shapes. It is done in such an original or innovative way that the American company, Pilobolus Dance Theatre, founded 46 years ago, was a pioneer in the style, largely responsible for a revolution in the modern dance scene.
Now, the company presents its new show: Shadowland 2: The New Adventure. Created by Steven Banks and David Poe, Shadowland 2: The New Adventure finally arrives in Brazil in May.
In the show, a screen is placed at the front of the stage so that the cast, using a play of light, projects images and choreographies in front of the screen. Children, adults, teenagers, and the elderly will share a dramatic and, at the same time, comedic experience. The show was conceived and created by the company, which after many experiments with shadow effects, managed to create a unique style. Known for its collaborative choreographic process and a unique approach within a diverse context, the company discovered a new way to present a show with modern dances.
In Shadowland 2: The New Adventure, the mix of shadows and choreographies is explored to tell a love story between two people who also seek to save an imaginary bird.
Employing animation, video, and shadow theater, the show takes us on an adventure that passes through various references, from science fiction films to film noir and romantic comedies.
Pilobolus Dance Theater
The company was founded in 1971 by a group of students from Dartmouth College, without formal dance training and no interest in creating based on the rules of classical dance technique. They employed an inventive naivety that the organization continues to energetically apply to current creations. Pilobolus has created and performed over 120 pieces in more than 65 countries.
