National Force remains in Amazonas for 2 more months

The National Public Security Force will continue to support the Penitentiary System of Amazonas for an additional 60 days. The authorization was signed by the Minister of Justice and Public Security, Sergio Moro, and published in the Official Gazette of the Union. This measure responds to a request from the state government.

The new deadline started to be counted from March 3. The military from the National Force in the state work in conjunction with local security forces in overt policing actions, patrolling the outer perimeters of the prisons. This work has been carried out since January 2017, following the prisoner rebellion at the Anísio Jobim Penitentiary Complex (Compaj).

Penitentiary administration and public security agencies in Amazonas provide logistical support for the operation. The contingent available is defined by the federal government.
