Estação Primeira de Mangueira is the great champion of the 2019 Rio Carnival. The results of the special group in Rio de Janeiro were announced early on Ash Wednesday evening.
A Mangueira paraded at Sapucaí, with the theme “História pra ninar gente grande,” by the carnival designer Leandro Vieira. The school told the story of Brazil through the lens of popular heroes.
From recent history, besides Jamelão, are the singer and composer from Mangueira, Leci Brandão, and the murdered councilwoman Marielle Franco alongside driver Anderson Pedro Gomes. The schools were evaluated on their percussion, samba-enredo, harmony, evolution, theme, mestre-sala and porta-bandeira, allegories and props, costumes, and front commission.
Estação Primeira de Mangueira received a score of 10 in all categories.
