Los Angeles to Host the 9th Summit of the Americas – The Brasilians

For the first time since its inaugural meeting in 1994, the United States will host the Summit of the Americas* in June.

The Summit of the Americas brings together heads of state and other leaders from North, Central, and South America, as well as the Caribbean, to advance shared goals for the American Continent.

“The vital national interests of the United States are inextricably linked to the fate of our closest neighbors in the Americas,” says the White House. “Thus, the ability of our democracies to close the gap between what we promise and what we deliver largely depends on what we do together to make it better.

This year, Los Angeles—a city with deep cultural, economic, and historical ties to Latin America, and home to many thriving diaspora communities—will host the ninth summit where leaders from the American Continent will discuss building a sustainable and resilient future. The commitments made during the summit have the potential to transform the continent and the lives of those who live there.

During the stakeholder forums, spread over five days, leaders and participants will discuss:

• A green future and clean energy.

• Encouraging youth participation in politics.

• Economic prosperity.

• Democratic governance.

• Recovery from Covid-19 and pandemic resilience.

• Migration.

• Transformation of the digital infrastructure of the American Continent. Even though the official events will cover the ambitious agenda, universities, think tanks, and communities in the Los Angeles area will also engage with the key issues.

“The United States hopes to bring together leaders and stakeholders from across the continent to promote our shared commitment to economic prosperity, security, human rights, and dignity,” said the White House.
