Yago Dora wins Trestles title, surfing venue for Los Angeles 2028

The Santa Catarina native Yago Dora, 29, took second place in the world surfing circuit this Saturday (14) by claiming the Trestles stage title in the state of California (United States), the beach that will host surfing competitions at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. It is the Brazilian’s second title this season – the first was won in Peniche (Portugal) in March. Today (14) Dora lifted the trophy after dominating the final against Japan’s Kanoa Igarashi: he scored a final 17.90 against 15.07 from the Asian.

With the Trestles title, the Santa Catarina native tallied 38,885 points and trails the season leader, South Africa’s Jordy Smith (39,450), by just 565 points. Igarashi remains in third with 36,390 points. Another Brazilian in the top 5 is Ítalo Ferreira: the Potiguar dropped from second to fourth in the rankings after being eliminated in the round of 16 at Trestles.

In the women’s event, the champion was Hawaiian Bettylou Sakura Johnson, who defeated Australian Molly Picklum, third in the overall standings, in the final. With today’s (14) title, the Hawaiian climbed three spots to take fourth place.

The next World Surf League (WSL) event will be the Rio Pro at Itaúna Beach, starting next Saturday (21).
