The U.S. government under Donald Trump has once again interfered in Brazil’s internal affairs after Supreme Federal Court (STF) Justice Alexandre de Moraes ordered house arrest for former President Jair Bolsonaro for failing to comply with judicial precautionary measures.
Via social media, the Office of Western Hemisphere Affairs, an agency of the U.S. Department of State, threatened those who collaborate with the STF minister’s work.
“Let Bolsonaro speak! The United States condemns Moraes’ order that imposed house arrest on Bolsonaro and will hold accountable all those who collaborate or facilitate sanctioned conduct,” stated the Office linked to the Trump government.
On Tuesday (5), the U.S. government’s profile commented on the case again by posting from State Department employee Cristopher Landau.
“The unchecked Orwellian impulses [in reference to the English author George Orwell, who wrote the book 1984, which depicts a totalitarian dictatorship] of the Minister are dragging his Court and his country into the uncharted territory of a judicial dictatorship,” stated the deputy secretary of the institution.
