The administration of US President Donald Trump issued a statement from its drug enforcement department offering to support Rio de Janeiro’s security forces in confronting criminal factions, one week after the police massacre that killed 121 people in the state.
The US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA, in English acronym), signed by James Sparks and disclosed by journalist Paulo Cappelli from the Metrópoles website, also praises the performance of the state police and laments the four deaths of security agents during the mega-operation, praised the performance of the RJ security forces and regretted the death of four police officers who “fell in the line of duty”.
“In this moment of mourning, we reiterate our respect and admiration for the tireless work of the state’s security forces and place ourselves at your disposal for any necessary support,” the document says, addressed to the Rio de Janeiro Secretary of Public Security, Victor dos Santos.
