Cycling the Estrada Real in Brazil – The Brasilians

Cycling the Estrada Real in Brazil

One of the oldest, most beautiful, and historic roads in Brazil invites you to a breathtaking adventure.

In the 17th century, the Portuguese Crown created an official route for the gold production from the center of the country to reach the ports. Thus, a route of over 1,630 km was born, cutting through three Brazilian states: Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo. Along the way, you will find lush nature, villages left behind by the wealth of the past, and a lot of history to tell, making this road the largest tourist route in the country today.

Don’t be intimidated by the 1,630 kilometers of the Estrada Real! You don’t need to cycle the entire distance – unless, of course, you want to. The idea is for you to experience the best of the road without the need to traverse it all by bike.

The route reserved for you is 395 km long, starting in the city of Diamantina (located 290 km from Belo Horizonte, the capital of Minas Gerais) and ending in the city of Ouro Preto, after 8 days of cycling. This route is chosen because it requires less physical effort than starting from Ouro Preto. Good for the legs!

You will have an immersive experience in the history of the country, in the cultural legacy left in the clothing of the people, the appearance of the houses, the food served in the villages, and the way of the people. And more: a unique contact with very impressive nature that will help you forget your problems, cleanse your soul in the waterfalls, and get lost on your way home after so much beauty.
