The Paraná native Yago Dora claimed the WSL (World Surf League) title on Monday night (1st) after defeating American Griffin Colapinto 15.66 to 12.33 in the final of the WSL Finals (competition’s final stage) at the waves of Cloudbreak (Fiji).
As the leader of the world rankings in the regular season, the Brazilian entered the Finals contention with a big advantage, only hitting the water in the final heat. And in the matchup against the American, he was dominant from start to finish to claim the title.
“This is the fruit of a lot of hard work and dedication. I’m very happy to bring this title to Brazil. It’s unbelievable. I felt something special during this week. No matter who I faced in the final, I would go in to win. Thank you to everyone who follows me,” the Brazilian declared in an interview still in the water.
Yago Dora’s title is the eighth won by a Brazilian in WSL history. Previously, Gabriel Medina won the competition on three occasions (2014, 2018, and 2021), Filipe Toledo on two (2022 and 2023), and Adriano de Souza (2015) and Ítalo Ferreira (2019) on one each.
