The Brazilian actor Wagner Moura won the award for best actor in a drama film at the 2026 Golden Globes, during the ceremony held on Sunday (11), in a victory that consolidated a historic night for Brazilian cinema. He was recognized for his performance in O Agente Secreto, a feature film directed by Kléber Mendonça Filho. This is the second consecutive edition in which Brazil has won a Golden Globe. Last year, Fernanda Torres left the awards with the trophy for best actress in a drama film. Now, Wagner Moura has also won the award for best actor in a drama film.
Wagner Moura gave an emotional speech, in which he highlighted the meaning of the film and thanked the director. “It’s a film about memory, the lack thereof, and a generational trauma. I think if a trauma can be passed down through generations, values can too. This award goes to those who are following their values in difficult times.” Then, he spoke directly to the Brazilian public, in Portuguese: “And to everyone in Brazil who is watching this now, long live Brazil and Brazilian culture.” The actor’s award marked the second victory for O Agente Secreto at the same edition of the Golden Globes. Earlier, the film had already been announced as the winner in the category of best non-English language film. It was the first time in 27 years that a Brazilian production won this category, repeating the historic feat of Central do Brasil.
With this, Brazil reached an unprecedented milestone: the country had never before won two awards in the same edition of the Golden Globes. The presentation of the category was handled by actress Minnie Driver, who surprised by announcing the result with a word in Portuguese, saying “Parabéns” before revealing the name of the winning film in English.
When taking the stage to receive the award for best non-English language film, director Kléber Mendonça Filho made a point of greeting the Brazilian public. “Hello, Brazil,” he said, before thanking the cast and highlighting his partnership with Wagner Moura. “The best things happen when you have a great actor and a great friend,” stated the filmmaker. Kléber Mendonça Filho also dedicated the award to the new generations of cinema. “I dedicate this film to young filmmakers. This is a very important moment in history to make films, here in the United States and in Brazil. Let’s keep making films,” he declared. Besides the two victories, O Agente Secreto also featured among the nominees in the best dramatic film category, reinforcing the international reach of the production and the prominence of Brazilian cinema in the main awards of the audiovisual industry.
