Tourism in New York is Almost at Pre-Pandemic Levels – The Brasilians

The end of the year is here, and the streets of New York leave no doubt about it. Those who live in the city have noticed that the volume of people circulating seems to have returned to pre-pandemic levels. In the next six weeks, between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, it is expected that 6.5 million people will visit the city, according to the local Department of Tourism.

Overall, in 2022, New York expects a total of 56.4 million visitors by the end of the year. This would represent 85% of the record tourism levels of 2019. The city expects to surpass the visitation numbers of 2019 by 2024. These figures include about 9 million international visitors and 47.5 million domestic travelers.

To further stimulate tourism in the new year, NYC & Company will once again hold NYC Hotel Week from January 3 to February 12, offering up to 23% off at more than 140 hotels. Featured hotels include The Beekman in Lower Manhattan, Radio Hotel in Washington Heights, Opera House Hotel in the Bronx, and The Rockaway Hotel in Rockaways, among many others.

“We know we faced enormous challenges, but we are rebuilding, and New York is back in style for tourists,” said Charles Flateman, chairman of the board of NYC & Company, at a press conference.

“Reservations are already open, and we invite travelers and even New Yorkers,” said the CEO. “This is a great opportunity for staycations as well.”

New York has over 124,000 hotel rooms, with another 11,000 rooms expected to open in the next three years.
