The 27th Inffinito – Brazilian Film Festival is Happening in the USA

Brazil is experiencing a moment of prominence on the international agenda, taking a leadership role in the debate on global issues such as the preservation of the Amazon, action for sustainable growth, recognition of native peoples, and the appreciation of cultural diversity in a country formed by all races, creeds, colors, and sexual identities.

To celebrate Brazil abroad and the 27th anniversary of the Inffinito Brazilian Film Festival, the traditional event has prepared a vast program aimed at translating contemporary Brazil. There will be shows, films, outdoor cinema, parties, tributes, and a lot of Brazilian culture – both in-person and virtual screenings – throughout American territory.

The selection of 63 films, including documentaries and feature films, all of which are premieres in the USA, sought to reflect the plurality of Brazilian audiovisual production, which at this moment in the country is undergoing a profound socio-political reflection, stimulating the recovery of memories and enhancing ideas and thoughts.

In-person events will return from August 30 to September 2 at Village East by Angelika in New York, and Competitive Screenings from September 10 to 16 at Silverspot Cinema in Miami. The return to movie theaters is yet another reason to celebrate.

In New York, an outdoor screening will feature two sessions: on August 25 at 8 PM in Queens, at Rainey Park, with the screening of the documentary Dom Salvador e Abolição, by Lilka Hara and Artur Ratton, and on September 2 at Brooklyn Bridge Park, with the doc Eskawata Kayawai, The Spirit of Transformation, by Lara Jacoski and Patrick Belém.

The Virtual Screenings will be accessible throughout the USA from August 5 to September 30 at inff.online. Thus, the American audience will be able to watch the films exclusively and follow the entire Festival. In addition to the competing documentaries, the audience can check out recent premieres and two thematic showcases specially prepared for this edition: the LGBTQIAPN+ Showcases and Indigenous Cinema.

A highlight is the Tribute to filmmaker Tetê Moraes, who is celebrating 80 years of life dedicated to cinema, journalism, and literature, focusing on women in Brazilian society.

Two major outdoor shows featuring singer, rapper, and songwriter Emicida, considered one of the greatest names in contemporary Brazilian hip hop, will close this grand celebration of Brazilian culture. The shows will take place on September 3 at SummerStage in Central Park, New York, with free admission, and on September 9 at North Beach Bandshell in Miami.
