Taylor Swift released on Friday (19) “Tortured Poets Department,” a mega double album with 31 songs.
To mark the occasion, Swift wrote that the album is “an anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions, and feelings of a fleeting and fatalistic moment in time – which was both sensational and sad in equal measure” for her.
“The Tortured Poets Department” comes amid the record-breaking success of the “Eras Tour” and Grammy wins earlier this year, and is on track to exceed sales and streaming expectations.
“This is probably the most anticipated album I’ve ever seen in my career,” said Tom Poleman, programming director and president of iHeartRadio, to CNN. “It’s not just a musical event; it’s a pop culture event that I think everyone in America will talk about and celebrate together.”
According to Spotify, the album became the most pre-saved album in the history of the music streaming platform on Thursday (18).
In February, Swift announced the album’s release at the Grammys while receiving the award for Best Pop Vocal Album for “Midnights” from 2022.
“It was really a lifeline for me,” Swift said about “Tortured Poets” during a show in February in Melbourne, according to a video posted on social media.
“Just the things I was going through, the things I was writing about,” she said, “that kind of reminded me why writing songs is something that really helps me in life.”
