Second Round of Brazilian Elections Takes Place This Sunday – The Brasilians

Second Round of Brazilian Elections Takes Place This Sunday

This Sunday, October 30, Brazil returns to the polls to elect the president and vice president in the second round, as well as governors in some states. The race for the country’s highest office is quite tight between President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and former President Luis Inácio Lula Da Silva (PT). The latest polls show Lula with a narrow lead over Bolsonaro.

Brazilian citizens residing abroad who have transferred their voter registration must vote for president and vice president. Those who did not vote in the first round can and should exercise their right next Sunday. Those who cannot return must justify their absence from the polls after the elections to stay in good standing with the Brazilian Electoral Justice and avoid losing their voter registration.

Brazilian consulates in the United States recommend that voters download the e-titulo app on their phones to facilitate the voter identification process and speed things up.

Those without e-titulo should remember to bring, in addition to the physical voter registration card, a Brazilian photo ID.

The polling places will be the same as in the first round.
