Brazilian resorts set occupancy record in 2023

The tourist offer in resorts in Brazil has been growing and reached a 60.7% occupancy rate in 2023. This was the best result for the historical series since 2010. The number reflects a significant growth of 10.2% compared to 2022, highlighting the recovery and strengthening of the sector after the pandemic years.

The data comes from the study Hotelaria em Números – Brasil 2024, conducted by the real estate services company JLL, specialized in commercial properties and investment management, in partnership with Resorts Brasil and the Brazilian Hotel Operators Forum (FOHB). The numbers also reveal the main trends observed, such as the increase in demand for coastal resorts, which recorded a growth of 9.5 percentage points in occupancy compared to 2022.

This movement reinforces tourists’ preference for outdoor destinations, in contact with nature, and a search for leisure and relaxation experiences in paradisiacal locations.

In this sector, Brazil has a wide range of services. The country currently has 133 resorts, with just over 31,300 available rooms, with the majority (61%) in sun and beach destinations, while 39% are located inland.

The occupancy demand has been primarily filled by Brazilians, who represent 94.2% of the total audience, while 5.8% are foreign tourists visiting Brazil.

In addition to occupancy, the Total Revenue per Occupied Room also showed solid growth of 10%, consolidating the financial performance of the sector. This increase is the result of a combination of factors, such as higher demand and optimized operations. This positive scenario indicates that resorts are managing to offer more value to their guests, remaining a competitive option within the hotel network.
