Renato Falci and His Journey from Celebrity Drawings to Abstraction – The Brasilians

Renato Falci and His Journey from Celebrity Drawings to Abstraction

The plastic artist Renato Falci, graduated in Art/Education with a specialization in plastic arts from the Guignard School – University of Minas Gerais, began drawing as a child. At school, he depicted on paper celebrities from our history such as Tiradentes, Dom Pedro I, Princess Isabel, and others, created prints on shirts, and later caricatures of his colleagues at the company where he worked. Upon realizing the success of his creations, he became enthusiastic and continued to develop his artistic work.

The entry into exhibitions began in 1988, in various spaces, including the Gallery of the Court of Justice of Minas Gerais, Cultural Space Integrar BH, Cemig, Contagem City Hall, Legislative Assembly, and the RECREIO dealership.

Currently, he is participating in the collective “The Era of Psychedelism” at “Santo Butiquim,” in addition to being involved in several editions of projects coordinated by the cultural producer and curator of this exhibition, Luiz Otávio Brandão, the acclaimed “Esquina da Arte – Savassi” and “Pintando ao Vivo.”

Renato Falci has also taught plastic arts courses in institutions and has been present in the performing arts as a professional actor in various theatrical performances, as well as in performances.

“Currently, I participate in ‘Pintando ao Vivo,’ at the invitation of Luiz Otávio Brandão, a person who values my work and with whom I have formed bonds of friendship. I also teach courses, including at home if necessary, as it is an activity I really enjoy. Thus, I continue creating my art in my studio, in the comfort of my home.”

“I am retired, but during my professional journey, I worked for thirty-two years at Cemig as an architectural technician, and I never lacked time for my drawings, paintings, and sculptures. My inspiration is based, throughout my studies, on expressionist and abstract artists such as Van Gogh, Monet, Wassily Kandinsky, Pollock, among others.”

“During my working years, I adapted to the materials I worked with, and today I have my own technique, but I still continue to develop other methods during the execution of each work, as I am always learning.”

“Art in my life makes me whole; thus, I cannot imagine separating my life from art. My works come from my soul, my energy, my core… I can’t quite define it… I just fight with the white of the canvas, covering it with colors in an abstract technique. After all, we are all abstract or surrealists! We change every day; what we were, we are no longer today, and as long as life endures, it will be possible to modify our desires, our words… We are chameleons adapted to the journey of life. Living is an art! Do not underestimate the artists that we are!”

“Art is the column of a deep root that perpetuates history in society through the ages,” concluded Renato Falci.
