Rebeca Andrade proved once again that she is the biggest name in Brazilian gymnastics today. On Thursday afternoon (3), she won the all-around title at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships held in Liverpool, England.
To secure the victory, the Brazilian totaled 56.899 points, with a highlight of 15.166 points achieved on the vault, an apparatus where she had already secured another gold medal at the last World Championships in 2021 in Kitakyushu (Japan), and in which the Flamengo athlete is the current Olympic gold holder (in Tokyo, Rebeca also brought home a silver in the all-around).
After an excellent performance on the vault, the 23-year-old athlete had a good showing on the uneven bars, earning 13.800 points. The third apparatus was the balance beam, where she scored 13.533. Then the Brazilian returned to present the choreography of the Baile de Favela to close the competition with 14.400 points and the world title.
After the victory, the gymnast declared that she was proud and happy: “This medal means that all my work, the work of the multidisciplinary team, and all the girls who train with me paid off. We worked very hard. I am proud, I feel an enormous pride, and I am very happy.”
The president of the Brazilian Gymnastics Confederation (CBG), Luciene Resende, stated that Rebeca’s victory is further proof that the sport is experiencing a special moment in Brazil: “This gold medal from Rebeca in the all-around has a meaning that is more than special. Over the years, we have won many medals at World Championships. First, Brazil built a very good reputation in the floor exercise. In the following years, we expanded our range, showing that Brazilians can excel in various apparatuses, such as vault, rings, and parallel bars. This World Championships in Liverpool confirms that our gymnastics has ascended to another stage of Brazil’s growth in gymnastics.”
After winning gold in the all-around, Rebeca Andrade has the chance to secure three more medals at the World Championships in Liverpool over the course of this weekend, as she competes in the finals on the uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise.
