Fans wanting to watch the Copa América final in person on Sunday between Argentina and Colombia will have to shell out over $2,000, according to various ticketing services in the secondary market. They will pay about nine times the average ticket price for the tournament.
The lowest resale prices for tickets to the championship’s final match average $2,127 across all platforms, based on data from ticket resale providers TicketIQ, SeatGeek, and TickPick.
The excitement surrounding the game is fueled by the chance for Argentina and its legendary captain, Lionel Messi, to win a third major tournament in a row, while Colombia arrives at the match unbeaten in its last 28 games – the longest active streak in international football, dating back nearly two and a half years.
The high price is a far cry from the average ticket price for the Copa América tournament as a whole, which was estimated at over $200, according to The Athletic.
The average ticket price for Argentina vs. Colombia is $4,024, according to TicketIQ, which estimated the most expensive ticket for the match at an impressive $66,765.
Just for comparison, the cheapest tickets for the 2024 Super Bowl matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers cost around $2,000, CBS News reported. The lowest ticket prices for the game reached $6,500 on Ticketmaster, while StubHub estimated the average resale ticket price at $8,600.
Who wouldn’t want to see Messi play?
Messi earned $135 million in total earnings in the year ending May 2024, making him the third highest-paid athlete in the world, behind golfer Jon Rahm ($218 million) and football legend Cristiano Ronaldo ($260 million).
Messi, 37, is undoubtedly a significant draw for those considering shelling out that amount for the Copa América final. This year’s tournament may be one of the last major international competitions for the Inter Miami star, who is trying to lead Argentina to its 16th Copa América trophy, which would break the tie with Uruguay for the most titles in the tournament’s 108-year history.
Messi told reporters this week that he will continue playing for the national team after the final, stating that he intends to “keep living day by day without thinking about what will come in the future or whether he will continue or not.”
