Technology Takes Teachers Beyond the Classroom – The Brasilians

Technology Takes Teachers Beyond the Classroom

Data storage tools, research platforms, applications to connect teachers and students, as well as distance learning courses, are the most current possibilities used in the learning process.

For those who still believe in in-person teaching, technology innovates the classroom environment and brings new ways of learning. The latest data from the Higher Education Census shows that distance education (EaD) saw a 3.9% increase in enrollments. Today, teachers and institutions have technology as an ally to develop methods and innovate the transmission of knowledge.

The Moodle platform, for example, used at the University of Brasília (UnB), is an open-source platform, meaning it has free licensing, for educators to develop and manage online courses.

“Higher education teachers used to dedicate themselves to selecting excerpts, book recommendations, assembling folders, and leaving them at their college’s copy center. Today, with this tool, they can work on this content via computer and the Internet, maintaining an educational space. The teacher optimizes their time,” comments education specialist Fernando de Castro (photo).

In times of many training opportunities being offered, both in the sciences and exact areas, as well as in the humanities, applications like AulaUp emerge as an option to connect students and teachers.

Designed as a technological platform to connect people, AulaUP brings together students who need private lessons with teachers who want to offer their services and even institutions with available classrooms. The student downloads the app, fills in the requested information, and chooses the desired subject. The teacher is called, and soon the need is met.

“The format of the traditional classroom as we know it tends to fall out of use, especially in large urban centers. Distance education, online training, and applications are understood as the key to meeting the growing demand for education,” states Fernando de Castro.
