If you intend to be a happier, more prosperous, successful person who is at peace with life, don’t let the opportunity that arises during an identity crisis pass you by.
When this happens to you, seize that chance and embark on a journey into unknown territory: yourself!
It’s your opportunity to reinvent yourself and, consequently, change your life story! Instead of lamenting what has passed or postponing your happiness for the future, start living in the here and now. Doing this is not as simple as changing clothes or radically altering your appearance. It requires
a lot of effort and determination, as it is a change that begins from within and gradually reflects on your exterior.
First, pay attention to new possibilities for seeing the world. There are many ways to view the world, but we almost always prefer to stick with one that keeps us in a comfort zone, which is not necessarily the best place we could be. Often, all we need to reconnect with ourselves is to step out of our comfort zone and look at the world with new eyes.
We can only live better in the present and create the future we want for ourselves if we redo the parts of our past that cause us suffering and pain; if we throw away the heavy emotional baggage that prevents us from moving smoothly through life. In fact, all you have to do is change the color of the lenses through which you view the critical points of your life. You need to reinterpret the facts to reframe the past, altering its influence on the present and, consequently, on the future.
Sooner or later, almost everyone is called to face the past. What happened, happened; it cannot be changed. But you can change the way you see, understand, and feel about the events that occurred in your life.
This is possible because we are linguistic animals, and the interpretation we make of events is often more relevant than the event itself. Therefore, by changing the interpretation, the fact gains a different meaning.
The significance of the events that happened in the past is shaped by our belief system, which is almost always formed in early childhood (a phase that lasts from birth to about 7 years of age). However, at any moment, it is possible to bring a belief or an event to the surface and give it another interpretation.
By positively reinterpreting a fact that negatively marked you, you transform trauma into experience. Remember that only you have power over your life. You are the only one responsible for it; therefore, instead of lamenting the scolding you received from your father when you were little or being humiliated by your boss in front of your colleagues, fight back and transform your traumas into life experiences! Take advantage of past events as true lessons for the future and free yourself from the unbearable burden that prevents you from moving forward!
Take a visit to the past, but from the perspective of who you are now, with all your life’s baggage. Certainly, viewed from a new standpoint, what you coded as trauma wasn’t so bad after all, was it? Human beings can change reality by relying solely on an idea. So, how about recreating your past from the present and shaping your future according to your ideals?
