Quentin Tarantino – The Brasilians

Quentin Tarantino is an American screenwriter and film director. Considered one of the great innovators of contemporary cinema, he became known for writing and directing films such as “Reservoir Dogs,” “True Romance,” and “Pulp Fiction.”

Quentin Tarantino (1963) was born in Tennessee, United States, on March 27, 1963. He is the son of Tony Tarantino, an actor and musician, and Connie McHugh, who is of Irish and Native American descent. He moved to Los Angeles at the age of two. From a young age, he attended film screenings and soon became a cinephile and admirer of alternative films.

He joined the James Best Theatre Company and shortly after wrote his first screenplay called “Captain Peachfuzz and the Anchovy Bandit” at the age of 22. One of his first jobs was at “Video Archives,” a club where he debated with his friends after watching films. He tried to pursue a career as an actor by studying at Allen Garfield’s Actors’ Shelter, but his path would be as a screenwriter and film director.

In 1992, he directed the film “Reservoir Dogs,” encouraged by Lawrence Bender, where he already revealed his raw and strong aesthetic. But he became notable as the screenwriter for the films “True Romance” and “Natural Born Killers,” released in 1993.

Quentin Tarantino received several invitations to work in Hollywood but preferred to isolate himself in Amsterdam to conceive another film: “Pulp Fiction,” which he wrote and directed. The film was a box office success in 1994 and won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. It also received the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay and was nominated for Best Picture.

In 1997, he directed the film “Jack Brown,” an adaptation of Elmore Leonard’s novel “Rum Punch.” In 2003 and 2004, he wrote and directed the films “Kill Bill” Volume 1 and Volume 2, which were praised for Uma Thurman’s performance. In 2007, he directed the film “Death Proof,” and in 2009, he directed “Inglourious Basterds.” The latter received a nomination for Best Picture and won for Best Supporting Actor.

Quentin Tarantino admitted his influence from English cinema, western films, martial arts, and the French Nouvelle Vague. His cinematic aesthetic is considered innovative and bold, with traits of violence and humor.
