What do you want to be when you grow up? – The Brasilians

What do you want to be when you grow up?

Talent is a savings account we gain at birth. The problem is what we do with it over the years, as not everyone knows how to manage this savings.

Today, we exchange our talents for money, prestige, and recognition when we exercise our skills as a profession. But sometimes, there’s a feeling that our work is far from reflecting our identity. This feeling increases when we realize that when we showcase our talents to others, outside the context set by our work environment, we are recognized by them. This means we do know how to do something worthy of recognition and that brings us pleasure, but that is not always what we habitually do as work.

Much of our essence manifests in childhood. With talents, it’s no different.

In childhood play, the talents and aptitudes that we end up forgetting over the years manifest, but they can transform and give new meaning to adult life if rescued in time. Have you ever asked a child what they want to be when they grow up? Be prepared for the answers! You might hear a bit of everything: firefighter, actress, soccer player, astronaut… Marcos Pontes, the first Brazilian astronaut to conquer space, dreamed of reaching the stars since he was little… But often, our talents or aptitudes are not so clear and defined, making it easier to forget or lose them along the way. However, with calm, patience, and attention, it is possible to recover them.

A good exercise is to remember the activities that brought you joy during childhood play. On a sheet of paper, list the games and activities you enjoyed the most, detailing what your role was and what skills were required. Don’t rush. If everything doesn’t come to mind, keep that paper with you and add items as you remember. This is an excellent exercise in self-knowledge that will help you rediscover your talents, as well as serve as a guide for potential professions or jobs where you could excel, combining pleasure, happiness, and fulfillment.

Many of the answers we tirelessly seek throughout life are stored within ourselves. It just takes courage and determination to seek them, which is not a simple task. However, you might be surprised by the results!

To parents, a piece of advice: just as it is important for an adult to recover their origins by recalling their fun and enriching childhood games, it is essential to let your children also experience this time of innocence, discovery, and growth. Don’t choose your children’s gifts, but encourage them, always prioritizing balance, common sense, and education. Often, an adult is surprised by an eloquent calling because, in childhood, they were prevented from expressing their aptitudes, and that was retained deep within their “inner self”.

In this way, contribute to your children becoming successful and happy individuals.

Small actions can make a difference in your life and in theirs.

Believe it!
