Globo, Band and Record Join the Coalition

The International Coalition Against Piracy (IBCAP) announced today that the main Brazilian television channels (Globo, Band, and Record) have become members of the organization, joining the fight against copyright piracy of Brazilian content in the USA.

The IBCAP, which represents over 130 television channels worldwide, works to protect its members’ video content against copyright infringement by monitoring and detecting piracy, raising consumer awareness, reporting suspected offenders to government authorities, and organizing legal actions to protect copyrights and other interests of its representatives.

Content piracy is severely harming the Brazilian entertainment industry, siphoning revenue from legitimate producers and broadcasters, thereby restricting growth and innovation. The IBCAP partnership allows the parties to share information, enhance detection, and implement strategies to dismantle the piracy sector.

“Globo is permanently committed to combating piracy and defending copyright in Brazil and worldwide. We invest heavily in talent, innovation, quality, and value for the audiovisual industry. The practice of piracy negatively impacts an industry that is increasingly producing content for multiple platforms,” says Marcelo Bechara, Director of Institutional Relations, Regulation, and Media at Globo.

“As piracy is a constant challenge, Band is always working with our partners, both in production and distribution, to inform and educate our viewers around the world,” explained Silvia Saad Jafet from Band Pay TV division. “Joining organizations like IBCAP puts us on a successful path to prevent this illegal and destructive activity that affects us all.”

“Ensuring copyright protection is essential for guaranteeing the continued success of the Brazilian entertainment industry globally. The partnership with one of the most successful anti-piracy organizations, IBCAP, will help Record overcome the pirates,” declared Wilon Cardoso, Executive Director of Record TV Americas.

“We are pleased that Brazilian content providers have joined IBCAP. It is extremely important that we continue to raise awareness about the negative impacts of copyright piracy and work with our members to prevent the infringement of their video content in the United States,” said Chris Kuelling, Executive Director of IBCAP.
