Brasília completes 58 years in 2018. Since its inauguration on a Wednesday in April in 1960, the capital, built in the heart of Brazil, brings together people from various regions of the country.
It was the arrival of these Brazilians that made the city dreamed of by Dom Bosco a reality. A mix that makes Brasília the city with the face and DNA of Brazil.
The historian Francisco Adolfo de Varnhagen, in 1839, made the first practical visit to the center of Brazil and defined the most appropriate place for the construction of the future capital. It would be in a triangle formed by the Feia lagoons (in present-day Formosa), Formosa (in present-day Planaltina de Goiás), and Mestre D’armas (in present-day Planaltina do DF). But it was only in 1955, in response to a citizen during
a rally, that then-President Juscelino Kubitschek promised the transfer of the capital. On April 15 of the same year, the Commission for the Location of the New Federal Capital chose Sítio Castanho as the definitive site to host the government of Brazil.
With the decisive action of the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial powers, Brasília remains an important hub for public service, awakening in its residents an interest in careers and dedication to public competitions. Congratulations Brasília!
