Oscar 2024: The Night of “Oppenheimer” – The Brasilians

The historical drama “Oppenheimer” led the Oscar 2024 with 13 nominations, followed by “Poor Things” and Martin Scorsese’s drama “Killers of the Flower Moon” with 11 and 10 nominations, respectively.

The ceremony, held on Sunday night (10), was prosperous for the two most nominated films, but not so much for “Killers of the Flower Moon,” which did not win any awards, and “Barbie,” which was a box office giant but only managed to secure one victory in the best original song category. Oppenheimer was the big winner of the night, closing the ceremony with 7 statuettes, including best picture, best actor (Cillian Murphy), best supporting actor (Robert Downey Jr.), best director (Christopher Nolan), and best cinematography.
Why Oppenheimer?

Released last summer, with positive reviews and a worldwide box office of nearly $1 billion, “Oppenheimer” was considered the favorite even before the awards season began. It won the major awards at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, BAFTAs, and all the main recognitions in Hollywood along the way.

“Oppenheimer” is a production that typically resonates well with Oscar voters. It is a period drama about a significant historical figure, set against the backdrop of World War II, directed by a major Hollywood auteur. The cherry on top is that the audience also responded: it is now the third highest-grossing film to win the best picture award, behind only “Titanic” and “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.”
