Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva published a plea on Wednesday morning (October 11) on X (formerly Twitter) to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the international community in defense of Palestinian and Israeli children.
“I want to appeal to UN Secretary-General António Guterres and the international community to urgently use all our resources to put an end to the most serious human rights violations in the Middle East conflict,” wrote the Brazilian leader.
In his view, an international humanitarian intervention and a ceasefire in defense of Israeli and Palestinian children is urgent.
In the post, President Lula also states that the Hamas group (Islamic Resistance Movement) must release the Israeli children kidnapped from their families. In the same text, he asserts that Israel must stop bombing the Gaza Strip so that Palestinian children and their mothers can leave that Palestinian territory bordering Egypt.
Finally, Lula said that Brazil, in its temporary presidency of the UN Security Council this October, will work for peace and join efforts for an immediate and definitive solution to the conflict. “[Brazil] will continue to work for the promotion of peace and in defense of human rights in the world.”
