It’s Time to Celebrate Brazil! – The Brasilians

It’s Time to Celebrate Brazil!

September is approaching. And everyone who loves Brazil and admires Brazilian culture knows it’s time for the biggest party in New York. The 33rd edition of BR Day NY will take place on September 3rd, the Sunday before Labor Day, on 6th Avenue, between 42nd and 57th Streets, and Little Brazil (46th Street), from 11 AM to 6 PM. The producers of BR Day NY have announced the 2017 event schedule.CLAUDIA LEITTEEnergy and Charisma Straight from BahiaIn the last ten years, Brazilian superstar Claudia Leitte has achieved incredible success as a singer and has become an artistic reference for her contemporaries.

Bringing a mix of samba and reggae, along with a sophisticated and innovative touch that has made her one of Brazil’s most relevant entrepreneurs, Claudia is a phenomenon with over 26 million followers on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter combined.

In 2003, she began her career as a vocalist for a local band in Salvador, Bahia, and in 2008 she launched her solo career with her first album: “Ao Vivo em Copacabana.” The album received gold and triple platinum certifications, establishing Claudia as one of the country’s biggest stars. The follow-up couldn’t have been better; “As Máscaras,” her next album from 2010, was nominated for ‘Best Contemporary Pop Album’ at the Latin Grammy.

At BR Day 2017, Claudia will sing her biggest hits as well as new songs, such as “Taquitá,” a sunny song with super feminine lyrics, co-written by her with Tierry, Samir, and Breno Casagrande, produced in Los Angeles and recorded in Bahia.MARCOS & BELUTTIThe Best of Brazilian Sertanejo MusicMarcos and Belutti are one of the most successful Brazilian sertanejo duos today. They are a constant presence on the radio and the internet with hit after hit.

The duo started their career in 2008 with a show at Villa Country (São Paulo), one of the largest sertanejo music venues in Brazil. Today, with nine years of career, they have four DVDs, six CDs, and a Latin Grammy nomination. Their biggest hits include “Domingo de Manhã,” which was the most played song in 2014, and the following year, “Aquele 1%,” which topped the charts for nine months.

In April 2017, Marcos & Belutti signed with Sony Music. The duo’s first release under the label was the song “Eu Era,” which will soon win the hearts of New York during the 33rd edition of BR Day NY.SORRISO MAROTOThe Tasty Samba of the Carioca Group

Brazil and samba are almost synonymous. Therefore, a Brazilian party without samba is not a true Brazilian Party. The group from Rio de Janeiro, Sorriso Maroto, will bring the best of this typically Brazilian rhythm to BR Day 2017.The band was born in 1997 when a group of friends came together and started playing. Bruno Cardoso, Cris Oliveira, Sérgio Jr., Fred Araújo, and Vinícius Augusto released their first album, “Sorriso Maroto,” in 2001. The group began to gain prominence on the radio and soon became one of the most popular samba bands in Rio de Janeiro.

Sorriso Maroto has collaborated with several prominent artists, such as Ivete Sangalo, Michel Teló, and Brian McKnight, and in 2015, their album “Sorriso Eu Gosto – Ao Vivo No Maracanãzinho” was nominated for the 16th Latin Grammy Awards in the Best Samba/Pagode Album category.

It is evident that the biggest Brazilian party abroad will be bigger than ever. In addition to the shows, the festival also brings typical Brazilian food, products, and most importantly, the joy of the Brazilian people.

BR Day New York is co-produced by businessman João de Matos, also the founder of the event, by the newspaper The Brasilians, and with support from TV Globo.

The event was created in 1984 to celebrate Brazil’s Independence. Initially, the party was restricted to 46th Street, officially known as Little Brazil; but over the years it has grown so much that it was expanded to Sixth Avenue. Today, BR Day New York attracts around 1.5 million people who gather to see and hear the biggest hits from Brazil.
