The Ministry of Foreign Affairs conducted a survey of Brazilian communities residing abroad, referencing the year 2021.
In that year, according to estimates, the Brazilian community abroad surpassed 4.4 million citizens, representing an increase of over 180,000 people compared to the last survey conducted, which referred to the year 2020.
The most significant concentrations are in the United States, Portugal, Paraguay, the United Kingdom, and Japan.

Based on this analysis, the Brazilian government decided to open five new offices abroad – the consulates-general in Chengdu (China), Edinburgh (United Kingdom), and Marseille (France), in addition to the vice-consulates in Cusco (Peru) and Orlando (United States) – and is also studying the opening of two more consulates in North America and another in Oceania.
