The federal government has authorized the entry of foreigners of any nationality at all airports in Brazil. Entry by roads and other land means is still restricted.
The decision came into effect on September 24 and extends the restriction for foreigners coming “by road or other land means, or by waterway.”
In July, the government had partially authorized the entry of foreigners into the country by air.
Since international flights and the entry of foreigners by other means were restricted in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the government has been re-evaluating the measures monthly.
Entry of foreigners by land is permitted as long as the appropriate immigration requirements for their conditions are observed, including the presentation of an entry visa when required. Those coming to Brazil for short-term travel (up to 90 days) may present a valid insurance document in Brazil to the airline before boarding, covering healthcare costs.
The joint decision – signed by the Civil House of the Presidency of the Republic, as well as the Ministries of Health, Infrastructure, Justice, and Security – exceptionally authorizes foreigners in a country that shares a land border with Brazil who need to cross it before taking a flight back to their country of residence to request this from the Federal Police and proceed directly to the airport. To do so, they must present an official request from the embassy or consulate of the country in question, along with the corresponding flight tickets.
