Another award for Fernanda Torres. After winning the Golden Globe for Best Actress in the Drama category in early January, the Brazilian actress who played Eunice Paiva in “Ainda Estou Aqui” took home the award for best actress in a drama film at the Satellite Awards, hosted by the International Press Academy. Torres competed against Angelina Jolie, Lily-Rose Depp, Nicole Kidman, Saoirse Ronan, and Tilda Swinton.
The best actress in a comedy or musical was Demi Moore, who is also competing with the Brazilian star at the 2025 Oscars.
“Ainda Estou Aqui” was also nominated for best international film — but the winner was “Waves” from the Czech Republic.
The Brazilian actress is also nominated for the 2025 Oscars in the best actress category. In the race for the golden statuette, Ainda Estou Aqui received a historic nomination for best film and is also in the running for best international film.
The Oscars will take place on March 2 in Los Angeles, California, during the Carnival week in Brazil.
“Ainda Estou Aqui”
One afternoon in 1971, Rubens Paiva, a former congressman and fierce critic of the newly established military dictatorship in Brazil, was taken from his home in Rio de Janeiro by government agents, informed only that he needed to give a “testimony” to the authorities, and disappeared. Adapted from the memoirs of his son Marcelo Rubens Paiva, this overwhelming and richly crafted political drama by Walter Salles (Diários de Motocicleta) remains faithfully tied to the perspective of Rubens’ wife, Eunice (a devastating Fernanda Torres), whose tireless quest for the truth about her husband would span decades. A devastating true story, “Ainda Estou Aqui” is exhilarating in its portrayal of human tenacity in the face of injustice.
