There is a political agenda developed before the election that, according to its organizers, is ready to guide the next Republican who takes the presidency, in this case, Donald Trump.
Called “Project 2025”, the agenda was mentioned by President Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and other Democrats throughout the campaign, sounding the alarm about what could be in store if Trump were to win a second term in the White House.
Supervised by the conservative nonprofit organization Heritage Foundation, the multifaceted initiative includes a detailed plan for the next Republican president to launch a broad reform of the executive branch.
Trump and his campaign worked to distance themselves from Project 2025 in the months leading up to Election Day, with the then-former president even calling some of the proposals “abysmal”.
What does the agenda contain?
Project 2025 consists of four pillars: a policy guide for the next presidential administration; a LinkedIn-style database of staff who could serve in the next administration; training for this group of candidates called the “Presidential Management Academy”; and a manual of actions to be taken within the first 180 days in office.
Its development was led by two former Trump administration officials: Paul Dans, who was chief of staff at the Office of Personnel Management and serves as the project director, and Spencer Chretien, former special assistant to Trump and now associate director of the project. Many chapter authors are well-known figures from the former Trump administration.
Some of the policies proposed by Project 2025 have been discussed by Republicans for years or promoted by Trump himself: less federal intervention in education; a secure border with increased enforcement of immigration laws, mass deportations, and construction of a border wall; abortion bans, among others.
What do Trump and his advisors say about Project 2025?
In a post on his social media platform on July 5, Trump wrote: “I know nothing about Project 2025. I have no idea who is behind it. I disagree with some of the things they are saying, and some of the things they are saying are absolutely ridiculous and abysmal. I wish them luck in whatever they do, but I have nothing to do with them.”
He repeated this message in his debate against Vice President Kamala Harris on September 10,
“I have nothing to do with Project 2025,” he said. “I haven’t read it. I don’t want to read it, intentionally. I won’t read it.”
More of the policies proposed by the conservative agenda:
• Disarm the Federal Government by increasing accountability and oversight of the FBI and DOJ;
• Free up American energy production to reduce energy prices;
• Cut government spending growth to reduce inflation;
• Make federal bureaucrats more accountable to the President and democratically elected Congress;
• Improve education by transferring control and funding of education from DC bureaucrats directly to parents and state and local governments;
• Ban biological men from competing in women’s sports.
