Eliane Elias is on an impressive streak of recordings. Following the success of her Grammy-winning 2015 release “Made in Brazil,” the renowned pianist, composer, and vocalist is back with her new album “Dance of Time,” recently released by Concord Jazz. A tribute both to the centenary of Brazilian samba and to Elias’s own multifaceted musical gifts.
“Dance of Time, released on March 24 by Concord Jazz, features renowned Brazilian musicians including João Bosco and Toquinho, both known for their personal interpretations of bossa nova and other styles.
Elias, born in São Paulo and better known for performing in clubs and concert halls than for swaying in the streets, brings her cosmopolitan style and innate Brazilian groove to classics including ‘Samba de Orly’ and ‘Copacabana,’ as well as Frank Sinatra’s standard ‘You’re Getting to Be a Habit With Me.’”
The album has received several positive reviews, such as:
• Billboard: “…romantic Brazilian jazz, blending the rhythms and harmonies of samba, straight-ahead jazz, and softer sounds.”
• The New York Times: “Dance of Time is inspired, musically skilled, and truly accessible to a wide range of listeners, from jazz to pop to Brazilian music. It is practically flawless.”
• All Music: “The album is beautifully played and contains beautifully arranged classics… With Dance of Time, Eliane remains true to those spiritual roots and marks yet another triumphant return to recording a Brazilian national treasure.”
