Christ the Redeemer Gets a New Entrance Portal – The Brasilians

Christ the Redeemer Gets a New Entrance Portal

Before the Rio 2016 Olympics and Paralympics, the capital of Rio de Janeiro gained another significant tourist product. At the site of the old Hotel Paineiras, built in 1880 and deactivated 30 years ago in the Tijuca National Park, the Paineiras Visitor Center has been constructed to welcome national and international tourists visiting Christ the Redeemer, one of the country’s main attractions.

The information about the venture was presented to the president of Embratur (Brazilian Institute of Tourism), Vinícius Lummertz, during a visit from one of the companies responsible for the investment, the Cataratas Group. The space features a new ticket office, a numbering system to reduce queues, ample parking, transportation via official vans, and a panoramic restaurant.

According to Vinícius Lummertz, Brazil will now offer modern and adequate reception infrastructure for visitors to Christ the Redeemer, an international tourism icon. “We will create a better visitation experience at Tijuca Park, reinforcing Rio de Janeiro and our country as tourist destinations. The monument with open arms over Corcovado Mountain is our main image, recognized by anyone in the world,” he added.

The president of Embratur committed to including the venture in the promotion of national products through the 13 Brazilian Tourism Offices (EBTs) spread around the world. Currently, through fairs, campaigns, and promotional actions abroad, the Institute is dedicated to promoting various destinations and products so that visitors extend their stay in a nation that has much to offer in terms of tourism, natural beauty, sports, gastronomy, and culture.

Bruno Marques, president of the Cataratas Group, highlighted the importance of revitalizing the historic site: “The Paineiras complex is a gateway to Brazil’s national parks. We estimate to receive 200,000 tourists daily already this August, with a large flow from the Olympics.” The executive was accompanied by the institutional and sustainability director, Fernando Henrique Sousa, who reminded that the Center will maintain a permanent multimedia exhibition about the Tijuca National Park, other Conservation Units in Brazil, and different biomes.
