Throughout this month, indebted Brazilians will have the opportunity to improve their credit score. The second national round of debt negotiation and financial guidance this year takes place from November 1 to 30, an initiative that involves the participation of the Central Bank, the Brazilian banking federation Febraban, and consumer protection agencies.
The initiative offers the chance to renegotiate debts with discounts and installments that fit people’s budgets. Individuals with overdue debts in banks and other types of financial institutions are invited to participate, as long as the debt is not tied to collateralized assets. Negotiations can be requested on the platform Consumidor.gov.br or through the direct online channels of the participating institutions.
Campaign
This year, the action aims to alert citizens about over-indebtedness and how to request renegotiation. By law, over-indebted citizens can renegotiate the total debt amount simultaneously with all creditors. This allows for more advantageous agreements than negotiating a debt with each bank, argued the Central Bank.
According to the Central Bank, family debt with the National Financial System (SFN) reached 52.9% of available family income in August. The indicator fell by 0.4 percentage points compared to the previous month, but rose by 3.5 points over 12 months.
