After 23 years of bilateral relations, Brazil has formally requested to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The council of the entity will now analyze the inclusion request.
Alexandre Parola, spokesperson for the Presidency of the Republic, highlighted that Brazil has been invited for an expanded engagement with the OECD, precisely as a mechanism to strengthen the partnership with the agency. Since 1994, the country has participated in OECD activities, in addition to monitoring 23 committees and working groups. Furthermore, Brazil also has 31 legal instruments defined by the organization.
“[The request] is part of the Brazilian Government’s efforts to consolidate sustainable and inclusive development, modernizing management and leveraging the Organization’s extensive experience in comparative public policies,” the spokesperson said in a press release. The OECD is a multilateral organization based in Paris that brings together the world’s major economies among its 34 members.
