Buffalo Bills football player Damar Hamlin is in critical condition at a Cincinnati hospital after collapsing on the field due to cardiac arrest on Monday night (2) during a game against the Bengals, which was postponed following the incident.
The Bills announced the cardiac arrest diagnosis on Tuesday morning (3), hours after the player was taken from the stadium in an ambulance.
“Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest after a hit in our game against the Bengals,” the Bills announced in a statement. “His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition.”
Several players from both the Bills and the Bengals gathered around Hamlin, showing extreme concern as he fell and was assisted by trainers. Hamlin took a hard hit to the chest area during the first quarter in a collision with Bengals receiver Tee Higgins. Hamlin got up after the play and suddenly collapsed.
Hamlin, 24, was drafted into the NFL in 2021 from Pittsburgh (PA). He became a starter in the third week of this season and has been a starter for the Bills ever since.
