The São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra – OSESP will perform in four concerts in the United States between October 10 and 15, marking its first international tour since the beginning of the pandemic.
The tour will feature four performances in three different locations: on October 10, at Helzberg Hall (Kansas City, Missouri); on October 12, at The Music Center at Strathmore (North Bethesda, Maryland); and on October 14 and 15 at Carnegie Hall in New York – it will be the first time a Brazilian orchestra performs as part of the official programming of this legendary classical music venue.
Conducted by American Marin Alsop, who has been Honorary Conductor of OSESP since 2020. Alsop is the first woman to conduct major orchestras in the United States, South America, Austria, and the United Kingdom.
The concerts will feature different programs.
• On October 12 and 15, the audience will experience the Forest of Villa-Lobos, a distinguished tribute to Brazil’s greatest composer, Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959). The grand 70-minute symphony showcases Villa-Lobos alongside Brazilian and foreign composers influenced by him. The OSESP Choir and soprano Camila Titinger will participate in the performances, accompanied by an unprecedented visual project celebrating our global heritage, the Amazon Rainforest, curated by Marcello Dantas.
• On October 14, OSESP will highlight José Staneck (harmonica) and the OSESP Choir to reinterpret works by Villa-Lobos. This program also includes the piece Sheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov. The performance on October 10 in Kansas City will take place without the OSESP Choir.
The concert is supported by the International Brazilian Opera Company (Iboc).
