With domestic tourism on the rise, some of the most beautiful destinations in North America are witnessing an unprecedented influx of national and international visitors eager to explore one of the country’s many underrated gems.
A city in Utah, in particular, saw over 26.9 million visitors coming in and out of its airport, a number that surpasses the pre-pandemic record by more than 100,000 and shows that travel in the region does not seem to be slowing down despite the cold temperatures.
Why are people visiting Salt Lake City more than ever?
1. The Best Winter Getaway
The increase in visitors in recent months has been anything but accidental, as Salt Lake City is what many would consider the best winter getaway in the country.
Nestled against the imposing Wasatch Range and covered by a pristine layer of snow, Utah’s capital could very well be the standard backdrop for all winter postcards, not to mention the many nearby ski resorts like Alta, Deer Valley, or Park City, just to name a few.
If you’re not into skiing or snowboarding, you can always go ice skating or snow biking, but if you’re feeling particularly adventurous, bobsledding is the way to go.
2. A Destination for All Types of Travelers
Winter sports enthusiasts are far from the only people who will fully enjoy the allure of Salt Lake City.
Here, there is something for practically every type of traveler.
Whether you’re a family looking for kid-friendly fun, a couple wanting to dine in a picturesque setting, a group of friends seeking the next outdoor adventure, or a solo traveler in search of a little peace and quiet, you’re sure to find something to do in Utah’s beautiful capital.
3. More Cultural and Historical Wonders Than You Can Count
When I say that Salt Lake City offers something for every visitor, this extends to different passions and interests – after all, there are so many cultural and historical attractions in the city that you’ll have a hard time getting through them all.
History buffs will love exploring the Salt Lake Temple and the Tabernacle, while those with a knack for geology or paleontology can marvel at the jaw-dropping exhibits at the Natural History Museum of Utah.
For a more laid-back sightseeing experience, you can stroll through the Pioneer Park Farmers Market, explore the trendy Sugar House, or enjoy the historic charm of The Avenues.
4. A Haven for Outdoor Enthusiasts
While Salt Lake City’s cultural scene is what many of us would consider an underrated gem, you can’t blame visitors for wanting to experience the stunning nature surrounding it.
Antelope Island State Park, Bonneville Salt Flats, as well as scenic drives through Big Cottonwood Canyon and Little Cottonwood Canyon, are some of the most breathtaking natural landscapes you’ll find throughout North America.
5. So Much to Do
New shops and restaurants are far from the only thing we can expect this year in Salt Lake City.
Here’s the event calendar for this year. Visitors can ice skate at the Gallivan Center, explore the romantic Valentine Art Market, or catch one of the many concerts during First Friday events happening throughout the months.
