The U.S. government has lifted restrictions that prohibited public employees from using TikTok on federal government devices, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday (11).
Earlier, on Monday (10), the White House said the app no longer poses a threat to U.S. national security because TikTok’s operations in the country are largely controlled by American investors.
TikTok, a short-video creation and sharing app launched by ByteDance in 2018, is a market leader in the short-video segment in China and continues to gain popularity worldwide.
The social network has faced intense scrutiny from U.S. authorities, who previously voiced concerns that the Chinese government could allegedly demand access to user data or use the app to spread propaganda. TikTok’s parent company has repeatedly rejected those concerns.
