The island of Fernando de Noronha, in Pernambuco, has once again been highlighted by the international press for tourists with physical disabilities or mobility difficulties. This time, the spotlight was on the magazine Dove, one of Italy’s largest tourism publications. The report is the result of the Accessibility press trip conducted by Embratur (Brazilian Tourism Institute) in 2013. At that time, media outlets from different countries that participated in the initiative reported on the island’s efforts in special articles.
The article includes useful information about the destination, with a full page of stunning images of the region. The magazine highlights the archipelago as one of the accessible locations thanks to the Praia Sem Barreiras project, which provides facilities for swimming in Noronha. The piece shows that when visiting the National Park, visitors with mobility difficulties have easier access to the Mirante dos Golfinhos via a suspended trail, fully accessible and built with biosynthetic wood.
In addition to the opportunity to visit the Mirante dos Golfinhos, the magazine suggests a visit to the Mirante do Sancho, where one can observe Praia do Sancho, once again voted by Revista Viagem e Turismo as the most beautiful beach in Brazil. The Dois Irmãos viewpoint, the island’s main postcard, also received attention in the report. One of the highlights of the trip, as described by the journalist, was the chance to go scuba diving, as well as exploring the beautiful adapted trails in the region.
This type of coverage has a significant impact on potential Italian tourists, emphasizes Embratur’s Marketing Director, Sérgio Flores. “The report encourages the arrival of tourists with any type of disability interested in discovering Brazil. Projects like this one in Noronha are essential for all people to enjoy tourism without distinction,” Sérgio adds.
Guilherme Miranda, General Coordinator of Public Relations and Press Advisory at Embratur, reinforces the importance of investing in press trips and relationships with international media to showcase the possibilities of tourism and the beauty of Brazilian destinations. “Conducting press trips is the most comprehensive way to showcase a destination, as it allows journalists to truly experience the place, enriching the articles they produce with their experiences,” he emphasizes.

The project was launched in 2013 by the Pernambuco Tourism Secretariat (Setur-PE), through the Pernambuco Tourism Company (Empetur), which provided amphibious chairs at Praia do Sueste that enable assisted bathing. The initiative is supported by the Administration of Fernando Noronha, the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio), the Oceanarium Institute, and the Eco Noronha Concessionaire.
