The National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) has opened a public consultation on the proposed Regulation on the Assessment of Human Exposure to Electric, Magnetic, and Electromagnetic Fields Associated with the Operation of Radiocommunication Transmission Stations.
The proposal aims to define methods for assessing human exposure to electric, magnetic, and electromagnetic fields in the radiofrequency range between 8.3 kHz and 300 GHz. Additionally, it establishes procedures to be observed for the licensing of radiocommunication transmission stations, which include TV signal transmission towers and cell phone antennas, as well as other equipment that transmits radiofrequency.
Anatel’s resolution on the subject dates back to 2002. The proposed regulation revises this resolution, making it more aligned with current legislation. Furthermore, it maintains the limits in Brazil for occupational and public exposure to electric, magnetic, and electromagnetic fields generated by radiocommunication transmission stations as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), according to Law No. 11,934 of 2009.
