A survey conducted by the Pew Research Center found that more than three-quarters of American adults currently use a smartphone. Among the respondents, 77% of adults had a smartphone by the end of 2016, more than double the level in 2011, when 35% reported using such devices.
The survey also found an increase in the percentage of Americans with high-speed internet at home, following a modest decline observed between 2013 and 2015. About 73% of Americans claim to have broadband service at home. Researchers found a record level of 88% in internet usage, but 12% of these users are “smartphone-dependent.”
Pew discovered that 69% of Americans use social media, primarily Facebook. The leading social network was cited by 68% of respondents, followed by Instagram (28%), Pinterest (26%), LinkedIn (25%), and Twitter (21%).
