The eternal king of soccer Pelé will have his life portrayed in an American television series.
The new series will highlight the king of Brazilian soccer during his time playing for the Cosmos, the New York soccer club, from 1975 to 1977.
The series is expected to be broadcast on cable TV, but it does not yet have a title. The production will be by Bunim/Murray, the same company responsible for the show Keeping up with the Kardashians on the E! network.
Paul Kemsley, Pelé’s manager, stated that he accepted the invitation for the series without a second thought, especially since he has a huge admiration for Pelé and enjoys soccer. He bets on how the series will depict that era of the
70s, showing how Pelé became a legend in New York during his time with the Cosmos and how Pelé was recognized as one of the greatest, if not the greatest athlete the world has ever known.
Kemsley has no doubt that they will capture all the magic of that moment in New York during the 70s, honoring Pelé’s legacy while showcasing the personality of José Arantes do Nascimento.
The film’s producer is also a coach of teams where his own children play and believes that soccer continues to fascinate people around the world.
The boy who turned 17 in 1958, in the city of Santos, ended up being “the legend” who at that age scored astonishing goals in a World Cup, repeating this feat from 1962 to 1970.
Pelé bid farewell to the fields with the Cosmos in 1977, where he played for the last time.
